These are photos of Jim Thorpe, PA. A town, formerly called Mauch Chunk that renamed itself to honor the Olympian. This town not only renamed itself, the town re-thought its' image and its' future. They got on board with the "Main Street" program and brought new life to their downtown area.

When I visited in the 1992, I was stunned to see the similarities bewtween Jim Thorpe and Norwich CT. The architecture, the topography, the cultural, economic and social history were all similar. |
|
The difference is that Jim Thorpe's citizens took a "leap of faith" in the Main Street concept and the idea of working together to build a strong downtown with a future. And they succeeded. |
